Sergio graduated (2010) with honors at the Universitat Jaume I (Spain). Afterwards, in the same university, he developed his Master’s degree (2011) and PhD (2015) under the supervision of Prof. Eduardo Peris and Dr. Macarena Poyatos. During his PhD, his research line was related with the design of new geometrically isolated poly-NHCs for the synthesis of multimetallic complexes, in order to develop improved catalytic processes. He then spent two years working as postodoctoral associate at The University of Amsterdam (The Netherlands), in the group of Prof. Joost Reek. There, he developed research dealing with supramolecular catalysis. In particular, he was interested in the fine tuning of the catalytic activity of transition metal complexes by modification of its second coordination sphere (catalysis in confined spaces, preorganization of substrates…). He arrived in 2017 to UNC, where he is working in the development of new catalysts for the electrochemical CO2 reduction.

During his free time, Sergio likes jogging, watching movies and series, reading and going to concerts.
