Matt is a North Carolina native who defected to California after completing a BS in Chemistry at Davidson College, earning a PhD from Caltech for studies of C-H activation and N2 reduction under the supervision of Profs. Bob Grubbs and Jonas Peters. After a postdoctoral stint with Prof. Mark Thompson at the University of Southern California investigating physical inorganic and materials chemistry aspects of organic solar cells and LEDs, he accepted a position at Carleton College, where he has been since 2011 and maintains an active research program with undergraduates exploring reactivity of metal/main-group bonds. Matt is spending his sabbatical in the Miller lab, where he hopes to put his synthesis skills to good use and learn some organometallic electrochemistry, all while cheering on his beloved Tar Heels.
